   Kitten Care

When you first bring your kitten home, place him in the litter box and let him slowly walk away from it so that he will know immediately where it is located.  The pan should always be kept in the same place, preferably near the food and water dishes while the kitten is very young.  Keep the litter clean.  Your kitten may not use a dirty pan.  The kind of litter used does not matter to the kitten, as long as it is kept clean.

Your kitten has been used to eating dry Science Diet Kitten and Purina Kitten food.  These foods are a complete, concentrated; meat based diet and may be purchased at pet food stores such as PetCo or PetsMart.  Your kitten may also be used to eating canned commercial cat food such as Whiskas canned food.  Until the kitten is older it is best to feed a canned food that is made for kittens so that they don't have stomach upsets. When the kitten is older you can switch him to any of the better brands that are available.  The poultry flavors are easier to digest than the fish or beef.  Also, the ground variety is preferable to the chunky kind in gravy.  Never give your kitten milk.  It will give him diarrhea.  Dry food and water should be kept available at all times.

You will need a brush or comb.  Comb your kitten at least twice a week.  You will also need to give your kitten an occasional bath.  Using Malaseb shampoo and giving Program (monthly oral treatment for fleas) will prevent ever having a problem with ringworm or fungus.  After you bathe your kitten, comb him out before drying completely with a blow dryer.  Unfortunately, Persians eyes have a tendency to tear.  The more extreme or flat faced your kitten is, the more this is a problem.  Tears should be wiped away with warm water and cotton balls, makeup remover pads, or a soft cloth.  If your kitten is white or light in color, staining may occur. Saline Solution used daily will help to keep the fur around the eyes from staining or you can also purchase a commercial pet tearstain remover such as Pretty Eyes or Diamond Eyes at pet stores, veterinary supply stores or pet catalogs.  Many products that you will need can be ordered from Revival Animal Health at 800-786-4751 or online at: http://www.revivalanimal.com/

Keep your kitten indoors.  He will be much happier, healthier, and live a longer life.  He will not miss the outdoors.  He has never known it.  There are so many dangers outdoors.  He may be hit by a car, stolen, accidentally or deliberately poisoned, or attacked by another animal.  He is also more likely to be plagued by disease, fleas, ear mites, worms, and fungus if allowed outdoors.

If you should have any problem or question with your kitten, please do not hesitate to contact me.  I am very concerned that each kitten has found a good home and that he/she is happy in their new home and with their new parents. My breeding and show quality kittens are sold to approved homes or small catteries only where they will not be caged except for breeding purposes or when raising a litter of kittens.  You can contact me at: 817-270-2110
